It’s never too early, or late, to help a child who has been exposed to trauma.
That’s the message Cleveland County Sheriff Todd Gibson and the Sheriff’s Office is spreading to local schools with their new program, Handle With Care. The program is aimed at protecting children who have been exposed to violence or other trauma. The program has been adopted by Lexington, Little Axe and Noble public schools as an additional protection for children who may be victims of trauma.
“Children who have experienced violence, abuse or other trauma in their homes or environments should not be traumatized again by other unsuspecting adults in their lives,” Gibson said. “Through communicating with schools when a child has been through an adverse childhood experience, law enforcement can make a real difference in those children’s lives.”
