Munson Passes ‘Handle With Care’ Bill Focused on Student Mental Health
OKLAHOMA CITY — Legislation to help increase communication between law enforcement and school districts has passed the House Public Safety Committee.
House Bill 3640, authored by Rep. Cyndi Munson (D-OKC), directs CLEET to offer training that provides instruction for law enforcement on how to alert a school district or charter school about the presence of a minor child or a child who has reached 18 years of age and continues to be enrolled in high school if that child has been identified at the scene of a traumatic event or an event that involved a response from an emergency 911 service.
“This legislation is about adults working together for the betterment of children,” Munson said. “By sharing resources and relevant information about children experiencing traumatic events, we can better equip our school districts to help our students deal with issues that may otherwise go ignored.”
HB3640 is now eligible to be heard on the House Floor.
